The Internet has always been, or so it would seem. An interesting task that was set before me was to chart the history of the internet and how it came to be, and how it has reached the state we know today.  In doing research for this (online too!), I came across many interesting sites but one in particular really stood out for me http://www.evolutionoftheweb.com  It gave an interesting depiction and display of the evolution of the web as compared to the many other traditional presentations of this information through text and photos.

Another one was http://www.internethalloffame.org/internet-history/timeline

This journey through the birth and growth of the Internet gave a new appreciation for the many tasks that are part of every day life that would not be possible without the Internet.

Here are some highlights:

– Internet began in 1960s

– Email introduced in 1972

– first website 1990

– birth of online commerce in 1994

– blogs first appear in 1998

– 2000’s brings introduction of social media

 – Social media has really taken off for personal, professional, entertainment and marketing purposes in 2010 +

With all of these advancements in technology, it has certainly changed the way we interact and connect with people around the world.  Here is an infographic detailing this growth and the impact it has made.
